The Debating Society has been turning timid freshers into fierce public speakers since 1873. We meet weekly and travel to tournaments across Britain and the rest of the world, no experience necessary.
We are the Aberystwyth University Debating Society. As the first university debating society ever founded in Wales, we have been making fierce public speakers from timid freshers since 1873! This society is a great opportunity to improve your public speaking, critical thinking, team working skills and more! We meet weekly to host social nights as well as organised debate sessions.
There will also be training sessions to support new and existing debaters to improve their skills in the same room; these sessions will continue throughout the year. We also compete in competitions across the UK (and sometimes internationally!) connecting and competing with other debating societies, but most importantly we are a welcoming friendly group of people of various interests and backgrounds looking to make sure your Aber experience will be filled with fun, friends and many many memories.
We meet every Thursday at 7pm in C4 in the Hugh Owen Building, where we do trainings and have a main debate each week. We also debate in the British parliamentary style and we are beginner friendly; no experience is required. We then partake in a social after the debate!
Additionally, the Debating Society is also a great opportunity to network, we do many competitions with other debating unions all other the country and even sometimes in wider Europe or the world.
