Aberystwtyh University Men's Rugby (AUMR) is one of the oldest and most successful university rugby clubs in Wales. Competing in weekly BUCS competitions, annual inter-society events, and rugby 7's festivals - we're always looking for new members. We strive for greatness on, and off, the pitch. As a society we provide an opportunity for members to meet, and enjoy their university experience with a good group of committed players and social members. We welcome any and all levels of experience; from first time players all the way through to seasoned veterans. Alongside players, we also welcome those with photography, refereeing, and S+C experience.

As a club we take part in both the BUCS league (National University League), and the Mid Wales Cup. Being involved in two separate competitions means that all players have plenty of game time, and the opportunity to develop their skills. Alongside official competitions, we also take part in annual inter-society events, such as Aberystwyth's "Superteams", as well as Aber 7's, the largest rugby 7's tournament in Wales. When it comes to annual varsity matches, we have a great competitive rivalry with Bangor University, in which we compete for the Prince of Wales cup. The team has had great success in all of our competitions, winning various awards and establishing ourselves as a club that displays a high level of rugby.

TRAINING

We welcome any all abilities to the club - whether you're a first time player, or you have extensive experience, there will be a spot for you in our club! We typically train 3-4 times a week and play matches on Wednesday afternoons. Each week we focus on developing individual player skillsets as well as refining team plays. With dedicated forward's and back's coaches, we have unit specific sessions followed by whole team game situtations to refine our play.

Furthermore, on Fridays we host Friday Night Lights (FNL) touch sessions where members gather for a relaxed kick-about and to unwind from a week of university. This is a prime opportinity for second rowers to start throwing 30 yard passes, or to watch a scrum half step some poor prop's ankles. Bring the joué!

The specifics of our training schedules are shared internally on our members Facebook group, Freshers should join our 25/26 Freshers Facebook group where we will share all details regarding training, matches, Freshers week events, and socials within the first few months of the year.

INDUCTION SESSIONS

Before our BUCS season begins, we host induction sessions that will include both a skills assessments, and mock-trial games. This has been a long standing tradition in the club’s history and will take place in late September or early October. It allows AUMR to tailor its coaching for each person depenedent on where they're starting from - keeping our players safe is is of upmost importance for the club. Specific details regarding these induction sessions, as well as all other events across Fresher's week, will be shared on our social media pages, and in our 25/26 Freshers Facebook group.

As part of the universities "Give it a Go week", the first few weeks of training and socials will be completely free. We encourage anyone who is interested in joining our team to come along to both sessions and get stuck in.

SOCIALS

As well as having training sessions throughout the week, we also have organised weekly social events to get to know new players and have a laugh with our mates. We find social events important to running a well balanced team, enabling our members to connect outside of rugby. We host socials every Wednesday after matches, where we have some of the best fancy dress themes in Aberystwyth, as well as the traditional shirt and tie attire.

Outside of regular scheduling there are even more social events throughout the year, including Christmas team meals, Varsity jersey presentations, end of year team meals, and the occasional beach bonfire come good weather. No matter who you are, you'll find lifelong friends through being part of AUMR.

As part of AUMR, drinking alcohol is absolutely NOT COMPULSORY, and there is no pressure on anyone to drink alcohol.
