Who we are:

Hello, and welcome to the Aberystwyth University Men’s Hockey club. We offer an inclusive and competitive environment for all abilities, enabling students to represent their university through sport.
We currently compete in two main leagues at the regional level:
Weekend games against other Welsh clubs in our division, West Open Men’s De Cyrmru, such as Pembrokeshire, Bridgend and Neath.
We have also competed in the past as part of BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) in Western Division 3 where we have played against other universities such as Bristol, Swansea, and Cardiff.
As well as these two leagues, we play in the Varsity match between Aberystwyth and Bangor, with the 2025 match being an incredibly close game that led to a draw at full time and an Aberystwyth win during shuffles. Showing the competitive, yet sportsmanlike, relationship between our two universities.
Give our Instagram and Facebook page a look if you would like to read match reports from the past academic year, such as our win at the Men’s Challenge final at Swansea.

This year we are using Spond to organise our games and help improve availability and access for our players.
If you have told us that you are available for a game through spond, you will play (provided we can get you in the bus or car!).
We do not hold trials to pick new members, as some of the sports clubs within the university do, so do not be afraid to come down to the 3G pitch (#weneedanastro) at any point, regardless of your hockey ability.
We can guarantee that you will not be the only “new to Hockey” member there.
If you have never played before, then do not worry. We offer beginner oriented training sessions at both the start of the academic year and after the January exams period. These will help you to understand both the rules of Hockey but also the basic skills required for the game.
If you have any questions we can be contacted through our Instagram or club email, so please don’t hesitate ask.
What we do:
As a club, we also take part in other non-hockey focused events.
We have taken part in the annual Superteams competition regularly, coming third last year, as well Rugby 7s where we have been lucky enough to field multiple teams.

We also host Hockey 7’s with the Women’s Hockey Club, which brings together both new and previous members, as well as other clubs and society to an event that raises money for Mind, our mental health sponsor.
Each Wednesday evening we host informal socials for our members, with a range of themes decided by the Social Secretary such as Pub Golf, three legged race and Hawaii.
We occasionally host joint socials with other clubs and societies—most often with the Women’s Club—featuring themed events like Centurion and Punch.
These are always a lot of fun and offer you an opportunity to socialize with your fellow members off the pitch, helping to create and maintain lifelong friendships.
On the formal side, we have annual Christmas and the End of Year meals, which offer chances to get dressed up and celebrate achievements in the past semesters.
If you want to find out more about us and what we offer, feel free to explore our social pages or contact the club using this link.
