Welcome to MSAGM Aber SSAGO!
SOCIETY OF THE YEAR 2023/24
Aber SSAGO serves Scouting and Guiding to students of Aberystwyth University. We have been running since 2004 and run a wide variety of activities including camping, walks, crafts, BBQ's, film nights and more. Additionally we aim to support students in finding leadership roles with local Scout and Guide units, so they can help the local units to keep Scouting and Guiding alive in Aberystwyth and provide the Scouting and Guiding experience to today's children. We also run many events and fundraisers throughout the year to provide a Scouting and Guiding experience to students.
Aber SSAGO is part of a national organisation which links Scouts and Guides from universities across the UK. Each year there are 4 national events; three camps called rallies, and a ball. We attend as many of these national SSAGO events as possible and have great fun in doing so.
We welcome all students from Aberystwyth University to join us for weekly events and camps spread throughout the year - you don't have to be a Scout or Guide to join us! You will make many great friends and have a brilliant time.

Meet the Committee
President: Cecilia Rudbæck (She/Her)
Hi! I’m Ceci. I'll be your president for 25/26. I’m gonna be making sure our society runs smoothly and fosters a fun and welcoming environment. I’m an absolute nerd and very dyslexic, so obviously I study English literature and Theatre. I’ve been in British Scouting Overseas since 2009 and spent some time in British Guiding Overseas between 2010 and 2013. I’m also International Project Lead for National SSAGO, so if you’re interested in international opportunities or going on a year abroad let me know and I can help you get contacts around the world so you can continue scouting/guiding away from home. I enjoy hiking, learning any and all outdoorsy things, and I look forward to doing lots of this with SSAGO.

Treasurer: Billy Calladine (He/him)
Hi everyone, shwmae pawb! I'll be your treasurer for 2025/26, I’m going to keep our books balanced and try to keep costs down for our members. I'm studying history in my 3rd year, doing my dissertation so if I look dead inside you know why ! I've been a Scout since I was 7, starting in South Wales as a little Cub, moving up to be a leader, now a Group Lead Volunteer! I love all my adventures I've had in Scouting, most recently attending the World Scout Moot in Portugal! I can't wait to get started in September and have another fantastic year of Aber SSAGO!

Secretary: Beth Morgan (She/Her)
Hi, I’m Beth and I’m going to be your Secretary for the next year! I’ll be keeping things organised behind the scenes – handling minutes, emails, and making sure everyone’s kept in the loop. I’m a second year Geography student. I started my guiding journey as a Rainbow in South Wales, where I still occasionally help with a Brownie unit. I also now help with a Guide unit here in Aber. I enjoy being outdoors, camping and spending time with great people.
Vice President: Riley Kleinjan (They/Them)
Hi, I’m Riley, and I’m going to be your Vice President for the next year! I’ll be the main contact for all things wellbeing and helping the rest of committee. I’m in my second year of education BA. I’m originally a Guide from … well a few places. I’m now a Brownie leader in Aber and a Scout in Aber and BSO, I also still do Guiding things back home. I love camping and all the amazing activities we get up to in SSAGO.
Quartermaster: Megan O’Malley (She/Her)
Hey! I’m Megan and I’m Aber SSAGO’s Quartermaster for 2025/26. I’m going to be looking after and acquiring our kit for the year. If you need to borrow anything, please let me know. I’m a Guide and Scout from the West Mids, who’s been in Guiding since 2012 and Scouting since 2019. I have helped in every Scout age group and am currently on a mission to do the same for Guides. I’m in my second year of Cultural and Heritage Studies and I love to collect badges and take pretty pictures of the outdoors.
National SSAGO
Nationwide SSAGO events are a brilliant way to keep the adventurous side of you alive. Each year there are three rallies which are hosted by other SSAGOs. They provide a meeting point for all SSAGOs to camp and participate in loads of different activities, from cafe crawls to rock climbing! You pick the activities you want to do! Not forgetting the themes - each rally has its own theme and evening shenanigans are arranged around it!
This year the three rallys are going to be held by Newcastle, Portsmouth and Bangor SSAGO Groups, all themed around different things. Find out more on: https://ssago.org/
The Annual Ball each March/April also provides a nationwide attraction for SSAGOs. An amazing three course dinner followed by the ball itself. Packages are also available for various costs to stay the night. Enjoy the food, entertainment and explore the town. This years Ball will be run by Birmingham SSAGO.
National SSAGO are also asked to help run national Scouting events such Isle of Wight Revolution, or Gillwell Wintercamp, and Guiding events such as Wellies and Wristbands. Find out more about National on their website and Facebook:
