Debating Society

The Debating Union has been turning timid freshers into fierce public speakers since 1872. We meet weekly and travel to tournaments across Britain and the rest of the world, no experience necessary.

We meet every Thursday at 7pm in A14 in the Hugh Owen Building. Where we do training, private members motions and then a main debate each week. We debate in british parliamentary style.

On top of this the Debating Union is also a great opportunity to network, we do many competitions with other debating unions all other the country and even sometimes in wider Europe or the world. But don't worry if you don't want to leave lovely Aberystwyth, we also hosts many events with speakers at the university, in the past we have invited assembly members and diplomats to come debate, joining the debating union is a definite way to meet people from the wider world.
