Aberystwyth Students’ Union achieves prestigious NUS Quality Students’ Union accreditation.
Today, following a number of years of transformation and development, Aberystwyth University Students’ Union proudly received a Quality Students’ Union Award at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament.
After working to develop the Students’ Union to ensure that Aber students love student life, AberSU has been working towards the accreditation as a key indicator of strategic success. Quality Students’ Unions has been developed by the National Union of Students (NUS) to assure the quality, standards and overall effectiveness of students’ unions throughout the UK. It is a single management tool that interlocks with, and complements, relevant standards and codes that already exist within the student movement. To be considered as an accredited students’ union, a union needs to be compliant with all statutory obligations and accepted best practice and participating Unions are giving a rating of Working towards, good, very good or excellent in 12 key areas of work.
Trish McGrath, AberSU CEO said “Taking part in NUS Quality Students’ Unions has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding part of our organisational journey. We are particularly thrilled to have achieved excellent in the people and representation and campaigning components and our high achievement overall is a real testament to the hard work of our staff, officers and students over the last three years. While we know we still have work to do to fully achieve our vision and an SU that all students can be proud of, the QSU quality mark has marked success to celebrate and given us some valuable development ideas for the future. I’d strongly encourage all SU’s to take part.”
Joining fifteen fellow Students’ Unions, including Leeds University Union, the University of Bath Students’ Union and the University of York Students’ Union, Aber SU will hold the accreditation for three years. Participating in the scheme was a key objective of AberSU’s 2017-20 Strategic plan and demonstrates the high standard of provision at Aberystwyth in the SU sector.
